Knowledge Management: Solcara KnowHow
Solcara KnowHow is a modular framework that supports the collection, classification, searching, linking and effective reuse of high value information and resources. It enables firms to capitalise on their expertise, insights and knowledge so that they can deliver a consistently high quality service to their clients and stakeholders.
Solcara KnowHow enables organisations to collect, profile, classify and index essential Know How materials so that these are easily accessible and searchable by all. Using a flexible and manageable taxonomy you can browse to content or target searches so that information on specific subjects, from specific departments or of a specific type is returned in an appropriate order ready for review and reuse.
Solcara KnowHow is more than a simple search solution that determines the ‘what’ or ‘where’ in relation to content. It goes further than this and enables users to capture commentary and notes on materials, link to and search experts, link multiple documents to a single profile and classify content by subject, type, department and other approaches as determined by the organisation.
Solcara KnowHow integrates with commonly used Document Management Systems (DMS) such as Automony iManage and OpenText as well as file systems. Documents can be loaded and ‘ring fenced’ within the KnowHow database or simply indexed and classified with links maintained to the latest versions within the DMS or on the file system.

Features and Benefits
- Search and Browse information Simple and advanced search interfaces combined with taxonomy browsing make access to content easier than ever before. Search interfaces can be configured to support access to multiple internal information systems as well as essential online information systems.
- Experts Directory Create, manage, browse and search experts databases to support essential ‘Know Who’ as well as ‘Know How’ requirements. Expert profiles can include linking and indexing of Curriculum Vitae as well as other information that supports quick identification when needed. Automatic linking of experts to content contributed and authored by them can also be supported.
- Link content across different internal and online systems Create dynamic knowledge bases/collections that link content from multiple internal and online information systems and services. Attach notes, comments and order content within the collections such that they are easy to use and amend by other users.
- Personalisation Bookmark and tag content and collections for later recall and reuse. Attach personal and shared notes to content so that these can be recalled and viewed whenever the content is accessed. Save searches for later recall and rerunning or create links to saved searches and embed these within an intranet or other system.
- Classify content held in commonly used document management systems Create records/profiles for content that is held in document management systems (DMS) without needing to store copies of these documents. All documents classified in this way are searchable and browsable and links are maintained to the specific (or latest) version of the document held in the DMS.
- Audit and usage reporting Automatic recording of every search and every click to every record and every search result. Knowing what your users search for and where they go for information helps administrators review and enhance the system on an ongoing basis.
